The Uni-Norths’ Owls are delighted to announce the appointment of Sam Rolfe and Russell Ingram as the 2019 1st Grade coaching team. Both Sam and Russ have a long history at the Owls, having represented the club in a playing and coaching capacity.
Sam Rolfe has played more than 100 games for the Owls spanning from 2009 – 2017, including 20 First Grade caps. His coaching credentials at the club include; Colts Assistant Coach (2014); Colts Head Coach (2015); 1st Grade Forwards Coach (2016), 1st Grade Assistant Coach (2017). More recently, Sam has been successfully plying his trade over in the UK, coaching Surrey University, Edinburgh University and Haddington RFC’s 1st Grade teams over the past 3 seasons. Sam has had exposure to the elite level through his role as the Brumbies Team Manager in 2016 and 2017. It is exciting to have Sam back at the club where he looks to combine his overseas coaching experience and knowledge of the local competition to put together a successful 2019 season.
Russell Ingram, is also very well-respected at the Owls. Russ is a 100 1st Grade capped Norths Old Boy. His coaching credentials at the club have included coaching the 2008 and 2009 Colts teams to the grand final, followed by a successful stint as 2nd Grade coach in 2010. Russ then went on to coach the Canberra Royals to a 1st Grade final in 2013 and that same year was awarded the Michael Hickey Award for Coach Of The Year at The Macdougall Medal . More recently, Russ has had a strong background in the representative scene as Brumbies Rugby’s Pathways Manager & Head Coach. It was here he coached the Brumbies U20s in 2016 and 2017, The Brumbies 10’s side at the Mauritius 10’s and oversaw various 7’s and 15’s representative programs. This year, the club welcomed Russ back in a part-time coaching capacity, helping guide our colts program. We are excited to have Russ continue his strong association with the club as we look to improve on last year’s drought–breaking finals appearance. Russell is also a Life Member of the Owls.
Further coaching announcements will be made in due course.
